Passage
Matthew 9:9-13

In this sermon, Wayne Surface explores the life of Matthew, one of Jesus’s twelve apostles, and how God can use even the most unlikely people. Matthew was a tax collector—considered among the worst of sinners in his day—yet Jesus called him to follow, and Matthew became one of the Gospel writers. This message challenges us to recognize our own unworthiness before God, extend grace to others regardless of their background, and live the Christian life not as a checklist of rules but as a love-driven formula: love God with all your heart, and love your neighbor as yourself. The sermon also addresses the reality of standing before God’s judgment and the importance of examining our works, words, thoughts, and motivations now rather than later.
