- Matthew 6:1-4
In this sermon, we explore the story of an unnamed boy who gave his lunch to Jesus, leading to the miraculous feeding of the 5,000. Through this account and other unnamed givers in Scripture—including the poor widow and a sinful woman who anointed Jesus—we learn vital lessons about faith, generosity, and worship. Why do we follow Jesus? Are we seeking miracles and blessings, or are we committed to the gospel? The disciples struggled to trust God’s provision even after witnessing His power. We too must learn to give sacrificially, cheerfully, and faithfully, understanding that giving is an act of worship and a way to prove our trust in God’s ability to provide.

turn your Bibles to Matthew chapter 6 Matthew chapter 6 want to welcome you here today including those that are downstairs thank you for being a part of our service and I hope that all of you receive a blessing from the service today as well Matthew chapter 6 we're going to finish our series up from Hebrews chapter 11 we titled the series broken we were looking at how God takes broken people and uses broken lives in and in his will and so this was God's Hall of Fame and all these people were broken at one point and God healed him and God used them and then we came down to the end of the chapter if we looked at each of the individuals that were mentioned there and we begin to we talked about
the others and we looked at some of the unnamed people in the Bible the the Widow who gave her all uh to Elijah uh her last bite of food the different ones that the the armor bearer of David who uh fought with him and and or of of of Jonathan I mean and fought with him and we look to some of the Unknown People in the Bible I'm going look at one more group of people here as we close this up and these are actually from the New Testament if you look at Matthew chapter 6 verses 1-4 and I apologize to begin with I got a little bit of cold and I'm hoping my voice will hold out here but Matthew 6:1-4 take heed that you do not your alms before men to be seen of them otherwise you have no reward of
your father which is In Heaven There therefore when they when thou doest thine alms do not sound a trumpet before thee as the Hypocrites do uh in the synagogues and in the street PR that they may have Glory of men verily I say unto you that they have their reward but when th when Now dust thine alms let not thy right left hand know what thy right hand doeth that that thine alms may be in secret and thy father which is which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly you know the other day I was at uh pandas went to pandas for lunch and uh as I went through the line there to had take somebody El to lunch and got to the end and paid for the food the guy asked me well do you want to you
want to round it up and give the the extra money to charity and I said yeah okay I I think it was rounding up about 13 cents and I said sure go ahead and he rounded it up and then reached over and ding hit a little bell and everybody there stopped what they were doing said thank you I thought thank you for 13 cents man that's pretty good uh in the Bible times these guys were coming they were putting their money in the offering box and when they did there would a a trumpet would play and the trumpet was sound off the more money it would be a bigger band that would play it was just a a way of maybe encourag them you know we need encouragement to give and this is way encouraging people to give
and and so they uh they they would sound off to let them know that theyve given now I want to talk about three people who gave that we don't even know their names and the first one they didn't not only did they not get a bell rung or a trumpet sound but we don't even know their names and the first one is found over in John chapter 6 John chapter 6 and vers 1-13 John 6 and veres 1-13 and this is going to bring me my hot tea here so I can drink that as I go along thank you answerer John 6: 1-13 the Bible says in John 61 after these things Jesus Went Over the Sea of Galilee which is in the sea of tyers and a great multitude followed him because they saw his miracles which he had did on them and
that were diseased and Jesus went up into the mountain there he sat with his disciples and the Passover a feast of the Jew was nigh when Jesus then lifted up his eyes and saw great company come unto him he said unto Phillip whence shall we buy bread that they that they may eat and this he said to prove him for he himself knew what he would do Philip answered him 200 penny worth of bread is not sufficient for them that every one of them should take um should take a little one of the disciples Andrews Simon Peter's brother saith unto him there is a lad here which hath five barley Loaves and two small table fishes that that but what are they among so many and Jesus said make the make the men
sit down now there was a much grass in the place so they sat down and and number around 5,000 now remember this just 5,000 men not counting the women and the children and Jesus Took the the Le the Loaves and when he had given thanks he distributed disciples and disciples to them that were sat down and likewise of the fishes as much as they would when they were filled he said un disciples get gather up the fragments that remain and no and let nothing be lost therefore they gathered them together and filled 12 baskets with the fragments of the five bar baros which he had remained over and above them unto them that had eaten so we know this is the miracle of the feeding 5,000 and there's
another miracle called The Miracle feeding 4,000 there two separate times here and uh as we look at this passage we have a little boy we don't know his name but he's the hero of the story but before we look at this little boy I want to talk a little about the disciples uh why are you following Jesus let me ask you that question why are you following Jesus in John 1: 6 6 John 6: 1- 2 it says after these things Jesus Went Over the Sea of Galilee which is the Sea of tiberias and a great multitude followed him because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased and so they were following not for his message but they were following for his miracles a lot of times people follow
Jesus for the wrong reasons later on in John 6 and: 25 and 26 it says when they had found him he had gone across the Red Sea there when they found him on the other side of the sea they said unto him Rabbi when when comest thou hither Jesus answered them and said verily verily I say unto you you see you seek me not because you saw the Miracles but because you didn't eat of the loaves that were filled and now they were not only looking for miracles but they were looking for free food you know a lot of times that people that follow Jesus they're following him for something that they want something that they can get something for the wrong reasons and we need to make sure we're following the
Lord for the right reasons if you look further on in John chapter 6 and look at verse number 16 Jesus in the rest of the chapter begin preaching unto them the gospel and telling how he had to die and be buried and rose again and they didn't like that and it got down to verse number 60 it says many therefore of his disciples when they had heard this they said this is a hard saying who can hear it and when KN knew himself the disciples murmured is he said onto them do does um sorry the light's a little bad up here right now does this offend you and and other words they they end up leaving him they they didn't like what they heard they didn't like the message you see they were following Jesus
for the wrong reasons they were following for the Miracles they were following for what they could get out of it instead of following him for the message of the Gospel the good news of God and John 6 and: 22 and 23 it says what and if you shall see the son of man Ascend up into heaven up where he was before is the spirit that quickeneth the flesh proth nothing the words that I speak unto you they are the spirit and they are life what's it going to take to get you to believe in me what's it going to take to get you to follow me um in verse number 30 it says they said therefore unto him what sign showest thou unto then that that we may see and believe thee what thou works now remember this is
after they saw the Miracles this is after they they saw the feet in 5,000 and now they're saying well what sign do you show that you're really of God I mean how much is it going to take to get them to believe and Jesus said listen even if somebody rose from the dead you wouldn't believe and that's exactly what Jesus did Jesus rose from the dead 1 Corinthians chap 15: 1-4 moreover Brethren I declare un the gospel which I preached unto you which also you received and wherein you stand by which also you are saved if you keep in memory what I preached unto you unless you have believed in vain for I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received how that Christ died for our sins
according to the scriptures and that he was buried and rose again the third day according to the scriptures that's the gospel that's the good news it's not the Miracles it's not the feeding of the 5,000 it's Jesus being raised from the dead and that's the truth of the gospel and that's what you and I need to believe today we need to believe in the death the burial the resurrection of Jesus Christ to believe in him look at John chap 6 and: 66-69 from that time many of his disciples went back and walked no more with him then said Jesus unto the twel will you also go away then Simon Peter answered him saying Lord to whom shall we go thou Hast the words of eternal life and we believe and are
sure that thou art the Christ the son of the Living God you see that's the one that we need to believe in many times you see people that fall away from the Lord and fall away from their faith it's because they weren't believing in Jesus Jesus they were believing in something else they were looking for something else and you and I we need to look to Jesus to his death his burial his resurrection for that is salvation we need to believe in him you see look at John chapter 6 look at verses 28- 29 John chapter 6 and verses 28 and 29 then said they unto him now remember this is after they saw the Miracles is after the feeding 5000 they said unto him what shall we do that we might work the works
of of God Jesus answer said unto them this is the work of God that you believe on him whom he has sent you see you're not saved by your Works in Ephesians 28:9 it says for by grace are you saved through faith and not of yourselves it's the gift of God not of Works let's say amen shabos and none of us are saved by our good works none of us are saved by what we do going to church or reading our Bible or or trying to be a good person we're not saved by our works we're saved by Jesus Christ and what he did for us when he died upon the cross the work of God is to believe in Jesus the work of God for salvation is to believe in his son his death his burial his resurrection in Romans chap 10: 9- 10
it says that if Thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and Shall Believe in thine heart that God has raised the dead Thou shalt be saved for with the heart man believeth under righteousness and with a mouth confession is made unto salvation in Romans 10:13 it says for whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved and you and I today the work of God that we need to do is to believe on Jesus Christ as our savior to put our faith and trust in him see too many people are looking for miracles they're looking for signs they're looking for wonders they're looking for being fed they're looking for something else except for what is the most important thing and that is peace
with God through Jesus Christ as their savior then go back to John chapter 6 again and look at verse number six another thing about the disciples in John 66 it says this he said to prove him for he himself knew what he would do when he asked the disciples what how are we going to feed all these people he was proving them look at Malachi the last book of the Old Testament right before Matthew Malachi chapter 3 Malachi chter 3 and verses 8-2 Malachi 3 and: 8-2 Malachi 3:8 will a man r God yet ye have robbed me but you say wherein have we robbed thee in tithes and offerings you are cursed with a curse for you have Rob me from even this whole nation bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse
and that there may be meat in mine house and prove me now here with sayith the Lord of hosts if I will o not open you the windows of heaven and pour you out the blessings and there shall not be room enough to receive it and I'll rebuke the devour for your Sak and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground neither shall your Vine cast to her fruit before the time in the field sayith the Lord of hosts and all the nations shall call you blessed for you shall be as a delightsome land sayith the Lord of hosts God said listen I want you to prove me see what God wanted to show the disciples is you don't have it in you you got to look to me if you want to do this he already knew what he was
going to do he already knew how he was going to provide so often we're we're we think we've got to prove ourselves and first 2 Corinthians chapter 8 verse number 8 it says I speak not by commandment by occasion of forward forwardness of others and to prove the sincerity of your love you see we need to realize that when we give is is giving out of love to God is giving out of love to others is giving of ourselves in love uh it's not about proving your faith the disciples they had no faith disciples said we we couldn't we don't have enough money to buy food to feed these people we only got one little lunch here we can't do this go over to Matthew chapter 6 Matthew chapter 6 look at verses 25
and 24 Matthew chapter 6 and look at verse number 25 Matthew chapter 6 verse number 25 therefore I say unto you take no thought of your life what shall you eat and what should drink nor yet for your food body what you shall put on is not the life more than meat and the body than reignment behold the fouls of the air for they sow not neither do they reap nor gather uh into um into barns yet your heavenly father feedeth them are they not much better than they and which of You by taking thought can add one cubit onto the stature and why take ye thought of for rment consider the lies in the field now how they grow they will not rust neither do they spin yet I say unto you that even Solomon all
his glory was not a raid like one of these wherefore if God so clothed the grass of the field which do die uh which today is and tomorrow is cast into the oven shall he not much more clothe you oh ye little faith therefore take no thought for the tomorrow for for the saying saying what shall we eat or what shall we drink or where shall we uh be clothed for after all these things do the Gentiles seek for your be your heavenly father know that you have need of all these things but seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you take there no thought therefore no thought for the marrow for the marrow shall take thought for the things of itself
s sufficient un the day is the evil thereof you see these these disciples had so little faith that God could provide there so little faith that God could do something miraculous and and we're the same way we we don't have faith in God to trust him in what he's going to do in and through our lives you know it's really sad 6 months later you have the feeding of the 4, go over to to Mark chapter 8 sometimes people think well these are both the same instance they're not Mark talks about the feeding of the 5,000 and the feeding of the 4,000 and more about 6 months after the first time in Mark chapter 8 verse number one it says in those days the multitude being very great and having nothing to eat
Jesus called his disciples unto him saith unto them I have compassion on the multitude because they have now been with the the with me three days and have nothing to eat and if I send them away fasting to their to their home own homes they will faint by the way for the divers of them came from far and his disciples answered him from which can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness I mean that's exactly what they said before how can we do this and just just six months earlier he had fed 5,000 and now they couldn't figure out how God could feed 4,000 and so often we have so little faith we go through things in our lives and we don't learn the lessons to trust in God and we
need to learn how to trust in the Lord 2 Corinthians chapter 8: 24 it says wherefore show you to them and before the churches the proof of your love and our boasting on your behalf you know this little boy gave his lunch he proved his love to God by what he gave and that's you know God doesn't need what we have but we we need what God has and we need to give out of love in Matthew chapter 14 and verse number 14 turn over there Matthew chapter 14 and verse number 14 Matthew and I turned to Mark Matthew chapter 14 and verse number 14 and Jesus went forth and saw a great multitude was moved with compassion toward them and healed their sick and was evening the disciples came to him saying this
is a decent desert place in the time is now passed send the multitude away that they may go into the villages and buy themselves viddles disciples didn't want to be bothered with all these people says Lord send them away it's too much work it's too much effort it cost too much he wanted to send them away go over to Matthew chapter 15 and look at verse number 32 then Jesus called the disciples unto them and said I have compassion on the multitude because they continue with me now three days and have nothing to eat and I will not send them away fasting lest they faint in the way you see Jesus cares about people he cares about what's going on in their lives he cares about their struggles he
cares about them when they're hungry and God wants us to learn to have that same compassion the Bible tells us in 1 Thessalonians chapter 1 turn over there 1 Thessalonians chap 1 and verses 5-8 1 Thessalonians chapter 1 1 Thessalonians chap 1: 5-8 he says for your for Our Gospel came not unto you in the word only but also in power and the Holy Ghost and much Assurance as you know what manner of men we were among you for your sake and you became followers of us and of the Lord having received the word in much Affliction with joy of the Holy Ghost that you were examples to all that believe in Macedonia and Acacia and for from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in m don't AAA but
also in every place you have your faith is to God where to spread abroad so that you have need not to speak anything for they themselves show us what manner of entering in you had unto we had unto you and how that you turn to God from Idols to serve the living and true God and to wait for his son from heaven when we when we raise him from the dead even Jesus which delivered him from the Wrath to come you know it's great to have a testimony I I love being at our missions conference last week and I love hearing the missionar say how this church has a a great testimony of caring for their missionaries of supporting them and writing to them encouraging them and praying for them and that's what
we need to do we need to have compassion it's not always easy it's not always H the thing that's going to be the easiest thing to do but we need to be willing to have that compassion to prove our love towards others and then to prove our love towards God go over to Matthew chapter 7 Matthew chapter 7 and verses 7 7- 11 now remember Jesus said he did this to prove them because he already knew what he was going to do he knew what was going to happen he didn't have to prove it to himself he was trying to teach the disciples a lesson trying to get them to understand something in Matthew chapter 7 and beginning with verse number seven it says and it shall come be given unto you seek and you shall
find knock and it shall be opened unto you for everyone that ask receives and he that seeketh findeth and him that knocketh it shall be open or what man is there of you whom if a son ask bread will he give him a tone or he ask a fish will he give him a serpent if ye then being evil know how to give good gifts unto your children how much more shall your father which is in heaven give good G good things to them that love him you see we need to prove God in our giving we need to prove God in our giving let me see if I can illustrate this for you you got 20 bucks stand up here if you had 20 bucks would you be willing to give it to the Lord yes yeah okay does your dad have 20 bucks probably yeah
probably go ask your dad for 20 bucks see he's got faith in his dad that he's got 20 bucks all right there you go and now you'll give it to the church oh this golden offering thank you sir see see how easy that was you know that was so easy I'm going to try it again do you have $1,000 do you think your dad has $1,000 maybe all right see the point is Faith is not what I can do it's believing what my heavenly father can do faith is saying I don't know how we can feed 5,000 people but I know God can I don't know how we can feed 4,000 people but I know God can I don't know how I can give money to missions but I know that God can and faith is saying I don't have it but my heavenly father does
Luke 11: number 13 if you then be evil know how to give good gifts unto your children how much more shall your heavenly father uh give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him so we need to learn we need to prove not ourselves because we have no faith but we need to prove Our God and how great he is and that he can provide for us and no no matter what the situation he can provide for us to give he can provide for whatever situation we're in he's going to take care of us now it's interesting when you go back to John chapter 6 and look at verses 8 and n it says one of his disciples Andrew Simon Peter's brother said unto him there's a lad here which hath five barley Loaves and two small fishes but
what are they among so many now you know one of the things that's interesting me is there's there was 5,000 men there which means there good chance there was 5,000 women there and there was at least 5 to 10,000 children there if they had one or two children a piece the number of people there and there's only one boy that has a lunch I I got to believe somebody else brought a lunch so how did it end up being this boy's lunch that they took how did it end up being did they call out and say hey anybody got any food they call out and only the boy came forward did the boy step up and said you can have my lunch maybe uh Andrew as Jesus was asking the question he he's trying to look around for a
quick answer said oh this guy's got a sack lunch grabs it from him I I'm not sure exactly how that happened it'd be kind of an interesting story to get into but he had this lunch did did he give it happily did he give it cheerfully go over to 2 Corinthians chapter 9 second Corinthians chapter 99 verses 6-8 2 Corinthians chap 9: 6-8 for this I say he which sth sparingly shall reap also sparingly he which Seth bountifully shall reap also bountifully every man according as the purpose his heart so let him give not grudgingly nor necessity for God loveth a cheerful giver and God is able to make all grace abound towards you that you always have in all sufficiency to all things may abound to every
good work we need to be cheerful givers abounding to every good work giving because we want to the other day Kena my granddaughter she's going to turn four years old here real soon and and she was downstairs at our house and uh I I like um those Welch's uh fruit gummies I don't know if you've ever seen them in the blue blue package I like those to have them in a closet and so she thinks that's her Supply and so she'll come down to the house and she'll just go right to the closet grab a bag and bring it over and have me open it for her and so I opened it up and I said can I have one and she had all these gummies in her hand right here and she said can I have one and she said said no and ate
them all all them in her mouth you know that's the way a lot of us are I'm the one that gave her the gummies I'm the one that opened the bag of the gummies and I can't even have one but that's how we treat God you see we ought to give cheerfully we got to give bounti F because if she'd give me one I'd probably go and got another bag if she wanted it I'm not going to hold back and neither is God look at 2 Corinthians chapter 9 look at veres 9-12 as is written he had dispersed abroad Heath given to the poor his righteousness remaineth forever now he that Minister the seed to the S hath both ministered bread for your food and multiply your seed sown increase your fruits of your righteousness
being enriched in every good thing to all bountifulness which causes through US Thanksgiving to God you know when you give it just keeps you keep giving you keep giving and God just keeps giving back we've challenged you this last week about giving to missions and the more you give to missions you're going to find the more God is going to give back to you God is is amazing how he gives remember in the story how that little boy he gave his lunch and all those leftovers there were were there as well you know remember how the story went he he had in that lunch he had uh he had some two fishes now what I did is I went down to LS got some cuttlefish how many know what cuttlefish is how many ever
had it before the local people know what that is and they'll like it and then uh he also had Five Loaves of barley and and folks those weren't big big bread loaves they were probably biscuits maybe a little bigger than these but probably just biscuits and that's all they were and you know what that's all this boy had that's that's it that's all he had and they distributed out to everybody who wants the Cuttlefish anybody want the Cuttlefish you want the Cuttlefish Su all right and you want the crackers you can have the crackers all right you give me 20 bucks I'll give you crackers so then afterwards they gathered up all the fish and and and afterwards they took all that fish and there was
just 12 baskets full left over now that was a magic trick but it wasn't a magic trick where Jesus did it he did it by a miracle and God always gives back more to you than you give to him Luke 6 and: 38 give and it shall be given you good measure pressed down and shaken together and running over shall men give into your bosom for the same measure that you met with all it should measured you again as you give to the Lord he's going to give back to you not always is it going to be cash for cash in the Old Testament God promised if you will give I'll bless your crops I'll bless your flocks I'll bless your cattle in the New Testament God says in greater things he says you give I'll bless you with
Grace God has always been faithful to us in giving and as we have given God has blessed us financially but more importantly God has blessed us Grace he's blessed our lives and this little boy who gave his lunch we don't know his name he was just one boy in a crowd of 5,000 plus but the only one willing to give and what about you then turn over to Luke chapter 21 we quickly look at two others that kind of relate to this way Luke 21 look at verses 1-4 Luke 21: 1-4 he looked up and saw the rich men casting their gifts in the treasury and he saw also a certain poor Widow casting in thether two mites and he said of a truth I say unto you that this poor woman hath cast in more than all they all
for they all have of their abundance cast in unto the unto the offering of God but she of her peny hath cast in in all of the living that she had now I don't know if you know what two mites is this is what a m looks like you probably can't see that but it's not very big at all it's just a a a little coin it's not even worth what we it's not even equal to a penny in our in our vernacular it was worth less than a penny it it was like 164th of a day's wage it it was in fact this this was so little that the Romans didn't count it as money and and so we have this little might was G this woman gave her last two mites but she gave it to the Lord go to Psalms chapter 51 Psalms chapter 51 something I
want you to understand as best as you can and that's this is we talk about money and we don't talk about it often but we've been talking about this last week with our missions conference about giving to missions above and beyond your tithe and your offering we talk about money God doesn't need your money you need God God doesn't need your money you need God and His blessings in Psalms chapter 51 and beginning with verse number Psalm 51 verse number 7 it says I will hear oh my people and I will speak o Israel and I will testify against thee I am God even thy God I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices or thy burnt offerings to have been continually before me I will take no bulock out of
the H thy house nor he goes out of thy hold Folds for every beast of the force is mine the cattle Upon A Thousand Hills I know all the fowls of the mountains and the wild beasts of the field are mine if I were hungry I would not tell you for the world is mine the fullness thereof will will I eat the Flesh of bows and drink the blood of goats offer unto God Thanksgiving unto the and pay thy vows unto the most high and call upon me in the days of trouble I will deliver thee and then shall we shall I and and thou shalt glorify me but unto the wck wied God saith what have th thou done to do to declare mine statutes that thou should us take my Covenant in thy mouth you see he said listen folks I
don't need your offerings I've got the cattle on a thousand hills you I don't need you you need me offering is not about about God needing our money offering is about us needing to be a part of what God is doing offering is about us being part of God's blessings it's about us giving to the Lord because we love God and this woman gave all that she had she gave her last two mites two pennies worth it wasn't much but God blessed it above everything else and I wonder what might you give what might you give in the might and the power of God then look at John 11 and verse number two there's one other woman's not named John chap 11 and verse number two actually I I lied to you this this woman is
named in John 11:2 it says it was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment wiped his feet with her holy with her hair whose brother Lazarus was sick so Mary was remember Mary the story of Mary she had this alabaster box of perfume ointment that was very worth a whole Year's wages very expensive and she brought it to Jesus and she broke it and and OED the feet of Jesus with it and wiped her feet with her hair you remember that story right but that's not the only one in the Bible there are four different places that this is talked about we believe two of them are about Mary but we the other two are not see there was another one that was not named another woman who did the same thing go
over to Luke chapter 7 may have been two other women in fact look at Luke chap 7 and look at vers number 37 Luke 7 verse number 37 and the living father has sent me I'm in John sorry about that Luke chapter 7 and verse number 37 Luke 7:37 judge not and you should not be condemned let's see if I got the right place here now this time all right I'm chapter 6 I'll get it right here folks Luke 7:37 and behold a woman in the city which was sinner when they knew that Jesus sat at meet in the Pharisees house brought an alabaster box of ointment and stood At His Feet behind him weeping and began to wash his feet with tears and did wipe them with the hairs of her head and kissed his feet and anointed
them with ointment now when the Pharisees which had bidden him saw it he spake unto himself saying this man is if he were a prophet would have known who and what manner of woman this is that touches him for she is a sinner probably a prostitute and uh Jesus answered said to him Simon I have somewhat to say unto thee and he sayith may Master say on and then look down at verse number 47 thou gavest me no kiss but the woman since the time I came in has not ceased to kiss my feet Simon didn't washed jesus' feet he didn't offer him a a towel to wipe his feet off he did nothing and yet this woman came in this prostitute and wiped the feet of Jesus and he shown him that uh this this woman came and
did this because she was a sinner forgiven by Grace she broke this Alabaster bottle which was very expensive perfume and she did it because she wanted to give a sacrifice to the Lord she wanted to honor him and worship in Proverbs 3: 9 and 10 it says honor the Lord with all thy substance with the first fruits of thine increase so shall thy barns be filled with plenty and I presses she'll B burst out with new wine I I love worship here at Ohana Baptist Church worship time we sing Our songs and and we have that time of just Fellowship in the Lord and it's a blessing but that's not the only time you can worship we used to before before covid we used to pass an offering basket to take the
collection we don't do that anymore we have the offering boxes in the back now and I miss I missed the offering baskets because you know when I give my offering to me it's an act of worship I appreciate many of you you give online and you you you have even it comes out of your paycheck every month automatically and that's a blessing and that's a we really appreciate you doing that but don't forget that giving to God is an act of worship when I used to put that offering envelope into the basket I I I was giv it to the Lord it was an act of worship to God it was a sacrifice to him many times we didn't have the money to spare but we knew that God would bless we knew that God would take care of
us and we gave and we ought to give sacrificially sometimes it just needs to cost us something in 2 Samuel CH 24: 24 it says the king said unto Aruna nay but I will surely buy it of thee at a price the king wanted to build an altar to the Lord at a certain place that was owned by a farmer named Aruna and he went to Aruna and said I want to buy that plot of land and I want to buy your cattle and your Yol so I can build an altar here and Ru said Lord King I'll give it to you and then David went on to say nay but I will surely buy it of thee at a price neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the Lord my God of that which does not cost me nothing so David bought the threshing floor and The
Oxen for 50 shekels of silver see David understood that that sacrifice and worship and giving it it it cost you something it it it's a price to pay in faith it's a price to pay in in giving to the Lord It's a price of compassion and love and we need to learn the the lesson of these unnamed people in the Bible you know what's interesting to me is that one of the women there's there's at least two different women maybe three different woman that anointed Jesus feet with oil and only one of them is named as that's Mary and the other two two were not named and I I wonder Lord why didn't you name the other two why was Mary more important why did you give her name I don't know know that and
sometimes you may feel like well why don't people know what I do I I give a lot I I do a lot and people don't always know what's going on but you know what God does and we need remember that so we can learn a lesson from some unnamed people today the little boy who gave his lunch now the lesson from the crowd is why are you following Jesus are you following for the wrong reasons that they were following Jesus for the Miracles they seen for the food that they were fed but they didn't want to hear the message they didn't want to do the works of God and the work of God is to trust Jesus Christ your savior and then God begins to work in your life disciples these were the Great Men following
Jesus the 12 disciples and yet they struggled with faith and so do I and so do you we need to prove our faith not to God he knows where our heart is we got to prove it to ourselves stepping out by faith and saying you know what I can trust God just like this young man trusted his dad to give him $20 to give I can trust God I can trust God to provide in my situation and I can give and I hope you prayed about what you can give to miss but it's not just about giving to miss it's about giving of yourself to the Lord in every way
