In this Wednesday evening study on eschatology, we examine what happens at the resurrection and explore what the Bible teaches about hell. Drawing from 1 Corinthians 15, Revelation 20, and other passages, we discuss the results of resurrection for believers—receiving incorruptible, immortal bodies with no more pain or corruption. We then turn to the sobering reality of hell for the unsaved: the great white throne judgment where all will be judged according to their works from the books that will be opened (the Bible, the book of works, and the book of life). Hell is described as everlasting fire, a place of torment, outer darkness, and a bottomless pit—not a place anyone wants to face. We trace the biblical terminology (Sheol, Hades, Geenna) and explore what happened to paradise when Jesus descended after His crucifixion, preaching to the captive and leading captivity captive to heaven. The message concludes with the promise that believers will be absent from the body and present with the Lord, and will be fashioned like unto Christ’s glorious body at the rapture.
