Philippians 4:7-9

In this concluding message of the ‘Deposit These Things’ series, Pastor Wayne Surface explores Philippians 4:7-9 and challenges us to move beyond merely hearing God’s Word to actively living it out. Drawing from Scripture, he addresses what it means to truly learn doctrine, receive the Gospel and God’s gifts, hear with spiritual ears, and see Jesus as our ultimate model. Pastor Wayne emphasizes that Christianity is not just intellectual knowledge but a lived relationship with Christ—one that requires discipline, mentorship from spiritual leaders and heroes of faith, and a commitment to be doers of the Word, not hearers only. He calls believers to examine their lives and ask: What are you actually doing with what you’ve learned?

turn your Bibles to Philippians chapter 4: 7-9 Philippians chapter 4 veres 7-9 as I mentioned a little earlier this is the coming to the end of this series called deposit these things if you look at Philippians chapter 4 and beginning with verse number 7 it says in the peace of God which passes all understanding shall keep your hearts and Minds through Christ Jesus finally Brethren whatsoever things are true what sort of things are honest what sort of things are just what sort of things are pure what sort of things are lovely what sort of things are good report if there be any virtue and if there be any praise think on these things those things which you both learned and received and heard

and seen me do and the God of Peace shall be with you and so as we look at this series that at the end of verse number eight it says to think on these things if you remember back when we first started the series we talked about that phrase that word think is in the in the Greek language could be translated into English as a to deposit these things and as you go down to the bank you can open a bank account for free at any Bank here in Hawaii uh there's no charge for that and that's kind of a picture of Salvation you can open up an account with God in heaven and deposit your soul with him for all eternity and that that is salvation there's no there's no charge it's free a gift of God but yet

if you open an account if you want to take money out of the account you've got to deposit money into the account if you don't put money in you can't take any out that's the way it works some of you may not have figured out that out yet uh but that's how it works and so uh you've got to deposit your paycheck you've got to deposit money in order to take and draw upon that and the same thing is true spiritually you can open the account with God through salvation through Jesus Christ deposit your soul with him but then you got to keep depositing into that account in order to draw upon the peace and the power of God and we're going to talk about that in our final message in the series next Sunday

but today I want to look at verse number nine and it says those things which you both learned and received and heard and seen in me do and the God of Peace shall be with you now I wonder I want to ask this question how much have you learned many of you have been here for the whole series or good part of the series and how much have you really learned in this series uh turn over to 2 Timothy chapter 3 and look at verse number S 2 Timothy chapter 3 and verse number 7 the bible says ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth and I believe there's a lot of Christians that are like that that come to church week after week after week they're here for Sunday school they're

here for church a lot of times back on Sunday night and bible study during the week and we're all learning these things as far as hearing them but we're never really com to the knowledge of Truth we're never really finding the way to practically apply it in our lives and I hope this Series has been more than just a series we've gone through but I hope that in these things that you've learn realized and learned how to deposit these things in your life so what is is it that you have learned look at 2 Timothy chter 3 and look at verse number 14 but continue uh continue thou in the things which thou Hast learned and Hast been assured of knowing of whom thou Hast learned them and that from a

child thou has known the holy scriptures which a make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus all scriptures given by inspiration of God is profit for Doctrine for reprove for correction for instruction righteousness that the man of God may be perfect thoroughly furnished onto all good works and now some of us here in the room maybe you've grown up in church and you've known the Bible from the time you were a child but others maybe you got saved as an adult but I wonder from the time that you got saved the time you begin going to church how much have you learned in that time uh again we can come week after week after week and hear the message and never really learn

what it is God wants to learn because the word of God needs to be profitable first of all for Doctrine in first Timothy 4 1 Timothy CH 4 and verse number 13 1 Timothy 4 and verse number 13 the Bible says till I come give attendance to reading to exhortation to Doctrine verse 15 meditate upon these these things give thyself holy to them that thy propy may appear to all take heed unto thyself and unto the doctrine continue in them for doing this thou shall both save thyself and them that hear thee you see uh you need to understand we've we've ra raised a generation of Christians that know all the Bible stories but they don't know the Bible they don't know what they believe and why and this is

one of the reasons why we teach uh teach the Bible Wednesday night we have a Doctrine class where we teach you uh what what we believe about theology about bibliology about the Holy Spirit about uh things to come we need to understand Doctrine we need to know what we believe and why and then it says reproof and and reproof is the idea of to prove or give at it evidence to convict in 1 Thessalonians 5:21 it says prove all things hold fast that which is good and and so what he's talking about here is as we hear the word of God it reproves us it it convicts us and gives us evidence of things that we need to do uh in John 88:9 it says and they which heard it being convicted by their own

conscience went out one by one beginning at the eldest even unto the last and Jesus was left alone and a woman standing in the mid and I wonder when you come to church and you hear the preaching does it convict you does does it change your life does it does it give you evidence that here's what I need to do in my own life this week in Acts chap 17:1 our church theme verses says that these were more Noble in that they received the word with all Readiness of mind and search the Scriptures Daily with those things were so and and it's not enough just to come to church and receive the word but you need to take it at home with you and you need to say now how is this going to convict me how is this

going to change my life what is this going to do for me personally in Ephesians chapter 5 and verse 10 it says proving what is acceptable to the Lord it it's not just taking what I say but taking the word of God and and now this is how I should live it on a daily basis and then again it says this profitable for correction and the word correction means to straighten up go over to Luke chap 13 if you would Luke 13 and look at verses 11-13 Luke 13 and begin with verse 11 it says behold there was a woman which had a spirit of in infirmity 18 years was bowed together and could in no wise lift herself and when Jesus saw her he called her to him and said un her woman thou Hast loose Thou Art loose

from thine infirmity and he laid his hands on her and immediately she was made straight um and glorified God and and and so here's a woman who had for many years been bent over and crooked and and when Jesus touched her life she was made straight she's straightened up look at verse number 16 it says and ought not this woman being a daughter of Abraham whom Satan hath bound all L these 18 years be loose from the bond on the Sabbath day see the word of God needs to loose us to loose us from things like bitterness and anger to loose us from things like um uh where where sin in our lives and and and help us to straighten up and and and get right with God in Hebrews 12 in verses 12 and 13 it says

wherefore lift up the hands which hang down and the feeble knees and make straight paths for your feet lest that which is lame be turned out of the way but let it rather be healed that phrase to lift up the hands which hang down that's the same word as the word correction and and and and when we come to the Bible when we come to church what we ought to do is we ought to lift leave church uh lifted up and saying you know what maybe I messed up this week and maybe it wasn't the greatest week and maybe I I I have some things that I need to fix but you know I'm going to straighten up and I'm going to lift up my hands and say you know what I need to do something different this week and we need to

take what we're learning to correct us and then it's good for instruction and and the word instruction comes from the same word as chastisement or discipline you know when when your children are bad you chastise them because you want them to learn to do what's right and and discipline is something we have to learn ourselves and how to dis discipline ourselves in Titus 2 and: 12 it is teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lust we should live soberly righteously and godly in this present world you see learning to discipline ourselves to do what's right it it's it's amazing to me how some people in church they can come to church week after week after week and yet nothing changes in

their life uh because they're not practicing discipline they're not saying you know what this needs to change it's kind of like some of you may be familiar with Dave Ramsey he he speaks on finances he's well known on the radio and the internet and uh he's got the financial peace course and and in that he teaches you how to get out of debt and and how to uh spend your money correctly and how to budget and and I'm amazed at how many people take the Dave Ramsey course and then they they never budget they they go out and buy a new car which one of the worst things you can do and they're and they're in debt and they were sat through this whole 9we course and yet nothing nothing changed in their

lives because there's no discipline you see we can know all the right things to do I can know I need to exercise I can know that I need to eat right but there's got to be discipline to put that into practice and and taking what we learned and disciplining ourselves to do it in our lives on a daily basis and so I wonder what in this series have you taken and and learned in your own life what is it that you've been instructed on to say this has got to change and putting that discipline into your personal walk into your marriage and your family we need to to to do these things we need you see we we should know better in Ephesians 4: 20 and 21 it says but we have not so learned Christ it so be

that you have heard him and have been taught by him as the truth is in Jesus and and and so we need to he says you've already learned these things now you need to put them into practice go over to 1 Thessalonians chapter 4 1 Thessalonians chapter 4 look at verse number n it says but it's touching bre of love you need not that I write unto you for you yourselves are are taught of God to love one another look at chapter 5 and verses 1 and two but of the times and the seasons Brethren you we have need that I write no need that I write unto you for yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night see these are things that we already know but we're not doing

and and we need to do it 1 Corinthians Chapter 14 verse 30 38 it says but if any man be ignorant let him be ignorant and and there are those that are ignorant because they've never been taught but there are those that are ignorant because they they come week after week after week they hear the message they walk out and and they forget all about it you know a little earlier I had you share something you learned and and I know how hard that is uh after Sunday morning my wife sometimes isn't in the service and she'll ask me what would you preach on and I think I don't know you know uh it's easy for it to get out of there real quick isn't it it's easy to forget it and and you have to stop and

think about it but if we're applying those things then that's what's making the difference in our lives and so we need to we need to learn and then we need to receive Paul said those things which you have both learned and received the word receive means to receive near to take to oneself look at first Thessalonians chapter 4 and verse number one furthermore then we beseech you Brethren and exhort you by the Lord Jesus that as you've received of us how you ought to walk and to please God so you abound more and more see you need to take it personally to take it to yourself look at Colossians chap 2 and verse number 6 Colossians chapter 2 and verse number six it says as you have therefore so

received Christ Jesus the Lord so walk you in him see we need to put Christ into practice in our lives we've received him we received the word of God but now we need to practice it now it starts by receiving Jesus Christ as your personal savior in John 1 and ver verse number 12 but it says but as many as received him to them gave you the power to become the sons of God even to them that believed on his name and I wonder have you received Jesus Christ as your personal savior have you received him into your heart and your life have you received the gospel go over to 1 Corinthians chapter 15 1 Corinthians chapter 15 and look at verses 1-4 1 Corinthians chapter 15 beginning with verse number one

this isss moreover Brethren I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you which also youve received and wherein you stand by which also you are saved if you keep in memory what I preached unto you unless you believed in vain for I delivered you first of all that which I also received how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures and that he was buried that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures you see have you received Jesus Christ have you received the gospel the fact that Jesus died was buried and rose again that he died to save you from your sins and to give you eternal life have you put your faith and trust in him you see the Bible says in 1

John chter 5 and verses 12 and 13 he that hath the son hath life he that hath not the Son of God hath not life these things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the son of God that you may know that you have eternal life and that you may believe on the name of the son of God do you know for sure if you died you'd go to heaven do you know that your sins are forgiven do you know that you have eternal life the ible says you can know that it's not what I say it's not what this church says that's what God says and he says you can know that if you have Jesus Christ and the way to have Jesus Christ is you have to receive him into your heart and your life in Romans chapter 10 and

verses 9- 10 it says that if thou shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and Shall Believe in thine heart that God has raised the dead Thou shalt be saved for with the heart man believeth unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation in Romans 10 10:13 it says for whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved and have you called upon Him have you believed in your heart you have to believe that Jesus that God so loved you that he gave his only begotten son you had to believe that Jesus died and buried and rose again so he could save you from your sins you have to believe that I can't save myself it's not of works as any man should boast it tells

us in Ephesians chapter 2 it's not my religion it's not my rituals it's not my own righteousness but it's a relationship with Jesus Christ it's believing in him your heart but it's also calling upon him and asking him to come in your heart and your life and be your savior and I wonder have you asked Jesus Christ have you received him you see you got to receive the Gospel first of all and then you need to receive the word in 1 Thessalonians 2:13 for this cause also thank we god without ceasing because when you receive the word of God which you heard of us you received it not as the word of men but as it is in truth the word of God which affects actually worketh in you that believe you see you

have to come to church saying God's word can change my life you open your Bible and read it every day because it's the word of God that's going to change us Faith come by hearing and hearing by the word of God and we read the Bible and we hear the preaching of God's word because we realize that when we receive God's word God's word is what will change our heart and our life and and so we've got to receive the word of God and I hope that when you come to church you open your heart and you open your mind and say God I want to receive what you have to say to me today and then we also need to receive the gift in First Peter CH 4: 9- 10 it says use Hospitality one to another without grudging as

every man hath received the gift even so ministers same one to another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God the Bible teaches that when you got saved the day you trusted Christ as your savior God gave you a gift of the spirit or gifts of the Spirit now we're talking about that on Wednesday night that's the topic we're dealing with is we're talking about the Holy Spirit now we're getting into a section we're going to talk about the gifts of the Spirit and and what they are every Christian everyone in this room you have received a gift or gifts from God that he is giving you maybe the gift of Mercy the gift of teaching the gift of giving whatever it might be and you need to receive

that gift and use it for his glory but you know the sad truth is in 1 Corinthians chap 12 it says that we're not to be ignorant of the spiritual gifts but the ad truth is that most Christians not only don't know what their gift is they don't they can't even name the gifts of the Spirit and and that's why that Wednesday night bible study you can join us in person here or you can join us online is so important because you need to receive that gift of the spirit and and know what it is and how to use it for the glory of God and for the blessing to others around you as well and so I hope that you might partake of that series as we go through that on Wednesday tonight but you see you have to

receive the gift of the spirit also but you need to receive your ministry in Colossians 4:17 and say to arpus take heed to thy Ministry which thou Hast received in the Lord that thou fulfill it you know I believe an important part of learning is giving you can't you can't put anything more into a full cup you've got to empty your cup in order to fill it again and the same thing is true if you're if you're here and you're receiving and receiving and receiving from all the messages but you're not serving you're not giving then your cup is full and there's no room for anything else in there and and you need to empty your cup in order to fill it and that's why you have a Ministry every one of

you in your local church God has called you to a Ministry what's my Ministry maybe it's teaching maybe it's being a greeter maybe it's being involved in the in the maintenance of the church or maybe it's going out on sine waving or whatever else it might be but I need to be reive that Ministry of God as well where he has called me to serve him in the local church wherever I'm at you see you can't you can't fill what is already full and so we need to learn learn and and and and learn what we're being taught not just hear it but learn it we need to receive it and then it says whatsoever that we need to hear what those things which you've learned and received and heard of me and go to Matthew

Chapter 13 Matthew Chapter 13 you say well what's the difference between hearing and receiving in Matthew chap 13 and beginning with verse number 13 it says therefore speak I to them in Parables because they seeing me see not and hearing they hear not neither do they understand and in them is fulfilled the prophecy of is sayas which is sayith by hearing you shall hear and shall not understanding and seeing you shall see and shall not receive for this people's heart is waxed gross and their ears are dull of hearing and their eyes they have closed lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and should understand with their heart and should be converted and should

heal and I should heal them but blessed are your eyes for they see and your ears for they hear are you do you have eyes that see do you have ears that hear again you can come week after week after week and there are those that come to church maybe out of habit maybe because of a a parent or spouse or whatever else it might be but they kind of close their ears and I really don't want to hear what's being said but there are also many others that come and and they the words go in but they don't they don't make an impact they don't make a difference in your life and and we need to hear in Romans 10:17 it says faith come by hearing hearing by the word of God and and that's why church is so

important that's why it's important to be here for Sunday school for Sunday morning for Sunday night to be part of a Bible study because every chance you have to hear is a chance to make a difference in your life and in 1st Samuel chapter 3 and veres 9 and 10 Eli was talking to Samuel and said go lie down and it shall be if Beall thee that thou shalt say Speak Lord for thy servant hearers so Samuel went and laid down in his place and the Lord came and stood and called as at other times Samuel Samuel then Samuel Samuel answered speak for thy servant heareth and that's what we should every time we come in these doors we should say God I want you to speak to me I I want to hear what you have to

say to me I I want it to make a difference in in my life in in Ezra chap 10 7 verse number 10 Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the Lord and to do it to teaching Israel statutes and judgments Ezra said God you show it to me and I'm going to do it and and that's the way what you ought to pray whenever you open your Bible that's what you ought to pray whenever you come to church is God show me what you want me to do and I'm already committed to doing it we need to hear we have ears that don't hear and we need to hear what God has to say and we you receive it again acts 1711 they received the word with all Readiness of mind they said I want something that's going to make a

difference in my life and then Paul said whatsoever things you have seen in my life in 1 Corinthians 11:1 Paul says be ye followers of me even as I am of Christ who is it that you see you know we need to start by seeing Jesus the Bible says in Hebrews 12: 1 and 2 it says wherefore seeing we are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses let us lay aside every weight and the sin which does so easily beset us and let us run with patience the race that is set before us looking onto Jesus the author and the finisher of our faith who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross despising the shame and sat down at the right hand of the Throne of God my prayer is that every time

you walk in these doors you don't just see the pastor but you see Jesus you see that that this is the one who died for you this is the one who loves you he is the one who interceding for you and and we need to re see Jesus and he is our our mentor and our model he is the one that we need to follow and and asking oursel what would Jesus do and and really looking onto Jesus the author and the finish of our faith but we also need to see our heroes in Hebrews chap 11 and verse number well you know we're not going to Hebrews this whole chapter we just finished the series from there and we talked about all the differ Heroes of the faith and and uh and how that each of them has something to teach

us who are your heroes in the Bible who are the people that their lives impact your life do you look at David do you look at Paul do you look at Daniel they're more than just Bible stories these are the heroes of the faith these are the ones we ought have looked up to and say what can I learn from David uh David made a lot of mistakes in his life David had a real struggle with sexual sin and and uh and and and and that that hurt him and and he tried to tell us don't mess up like I messed up and and David struggled with that and David strug David struggled with pride and and we can learn from that and Daniel uh to purpos in his heart that he would not defile himself what a lesson we can learn

from him and we can go throughout the scriptures and each one in the Bible is there for an example in 1 Corinthians 10 11 and 12 it says now all these things happened unto them for examples and they are written for our admonition upon whom the ends of the world are come wherefore let him think that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall God says listen these people in the Bible they're there for a reason and some are there to tell give us an example of doing right and and and and do what they did and others are there for examples of what not to do and and don't make the same mistakes that they made and and you know we need to look to these Heroes of the faith and and we need to have

different ones that we say that's what I want to learn and and to study their lives and to look at their lives and and learn from their example and then we also need to look to our to listen to hear our mentors in 2 Timothy chap 2: 1 and 2 it says Thou therefore my son be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus and the things that thou has heard of me among many witnesses the same commit thou of Faithful Men Who should be able to teach others also you see God says that we ought to be teaching others and if somebody's supposed to be if I'm supposed to be teaching others then I need somebody to teach me as well and and I wonder who are your spiritual mentors who are the people in this

church that you're looking to to learn from their lives to learn from their example if you're a married couple you ought to be looking uh to the married couples in the church the older ones and say I I I want to find a couple that that has learned the lessons and has got a good marriage because I want to learn from them I want them to Mentor me and and and and I want to hear what they have to say if you're a young person you want to have a mentor of a older person in your life that's going to going to be there for you and to teach you who is it that's teaching you who is it that's mentoring you who are you hearing from in your life as well you know um I I've used this before and I know a lot

of you are familiar with it but if you think of the idea that one of the unique things about us in God's creation we have this supposable thumb and the opposition of the thumb animals don't have that and that's one of the things that makes us able to manipulate things without my opposable thumb I'd have a very tough time you know even trying to hold on to this camera uh let alone to to text or to call or to do anything else on there it's that opposable thumb that allows me to get a grip on this uh this phone right here and the same thing is true in life that God wants us to have opposition he wants us to have people in our lives that are not opposed to us my thumb isn't opposed to my fingers

fighting with them all the time but my thumb is there to help my fingers to get a grip and my fingers are there to help my thumb get a grip and you're the thumb and you need four kinds of people in your life you need a pointer you need somebody in your life that's not afraid to get in your face and say what's going on in your life right right now Ricky how you treating your wife how you doing with work you know and to ask the tough questions and and uh point at you and and say what are you doing right now and and and that's somebody that's that you got to have somebody that loves you and is not going to judge you to be that kind of person but you need a pointer in your life and then the

second finger is our biggest finger and these all start with pet you make them easy to remember and that's the patriarch you need somebody older wiser been there done that you ought to have somebody in your life that's at least 10 years older than you or more that's been down the road of life that's already experienced what you're going to experience and can tell you what they did right they can tell you what they did wrong they could tell you what they wish they would have done a and to learn from their experience so you don't have to make the same mistake and then the third finger is your ring finger and that's your partner you know married couples your spouse is not the enemy and so often

we treat each other like we're fighting with each other and opposing each other but my wife is there to oppose me to help me to get a grip and and your wife is your partner H not your enemy and you need to have a partner that's with you young people your partner is your parents and I always tell young people if you're away from your parents and then wherever you're at find some surrogate parents find some and this is good for anybody to have somebody that's going to treat you like their child and tell them I want you to adopt me uh and put me in your will I I I want you to uh I want you to invite me over for dinner every once in a while but more importantly I I want you to adopt me so you

treat me like your son you treat me like your daughter and give me the same advice and encouragement you would give to them and then the fourth finger is your smallest finger and that stands for your peers and your peers the good thing about peers is is this they're experiencing what you're experienc it's been a long time since I was a young married couple uh that we were a young married couple and been a long time we had little kids we've got our little grandkids right now and and there's a reason why you don't have kids after 45 or 50 years old there's a reason why you don't have kids when you're in your 60s and um I love my grandkids but uh it's a challenge and so you young couples need

to find other young couples that have got children what how are you doing this when you're newly married find another newly married couple how are you doing this when you're a single find another single how are you doing this how are you handling these problems your peers are are experiencing what you're experiencing you can share with one another what's working for each other but remember this very rarely in life do we pick up something with just our little finger and our thumb uh the little finger is a stabilizing finger and remember your peers are just as stupid as you are they have no more life experience they have no more knowledge than you do so don't take the peers over the patriarch

and and the parents and the partner But realize that they can be a blessing and help and you can encourage one another in your walk with the Lord and and you need to have people that you're hearing that you're listening to that that they can give you counsel and advice and you're seeking that out and then who is it that sees you and hears you in 1 Peter chap 2:2 it says having your conversation honest among the Gentiles that where as they speak against you as evildoers they may by your good works which they shall behold glorify God in the day of vation do what do people see in your life what do they hear from you as a Christian we need to teach others also in 1 Timothy 4:12 let no man

despise thy youth but be thou an example of the Believers in word in conversation and charity and spirit and faith and Purity you may say well I'm not very old in the Lord I'm I'm pretty young person but you know everybody has someone that needs to hear you I often tell our teenagers the most important thing for them is to realize that they are mentors to our elementary kids to the junior age kids you see the junior age kids they can't imagine being an adult they can't imagine being a single or married or any of that kind of stuff that's just outside of their imagination but you know what the whole goal of A fifth or sixth grader is to be a teenager and that's why our teenagers need to

understand that you are a mentor to our Juniors and our teenagers they can't imagine being married and having a job and all the rest of that what you know what they want to be single adults and you singles have a responsibility in this church to be a mentor and example to our teenagers because they can't imagine being 68 years old like me that's just beyond their comprehension but they can imagine being a young adult and then the young married couples the singles that's what they want they want to be young married they want to find that spouse that partner for life and and you're their example and you're the ones they strive to be and it just works that way up the ladder every one of you it

has somebody that's hearing and watching you what kind of example are you to them as well you see Paul ends verse Number Nine by this those things that you have received and learned and heard and seen of me do and the God of Peace should be with you to do go to James chapter 1 and closing James chapter 1 what God is looking for us to put in practice what we've learned I was a teacher for many years and I I liked giving tests because I like to torture kids No I gave test because I wanted the test most teachers don't give tests to find out what you've learned because they already know that I don't have to give a test to know what my students have learned you can you can pay attention to them

you can figure it out pretty quickly the tests are more for them to know what they've learned and here was my one main principle on tests and quizzes is this you keep getting the same quiz and you keep getting the same test until you pass till you do it and that's God's Principle as well he says listen I'm going to keep giving you the same test over and over again until you finally pass so if you don't like the test you're going through Pass them so you don't have to do it again I mean there was a couple classes when I was in school I I I I I got maybe a c out of that class and the only reason I got that is because I didn't want to take the class again and there's some things in life I don't

want to have to keep learning in James chapter 1 and veres 22 through2 it says but be doers of the word and not hearers only deceiving your own selves for if any be a hearer of the word and not a doer he's like unto a man behold his natural face in the glass for he beholds himself and Goth his way and straightway forget what manner of man he was but who so look to the perfect law of Liberty and continueth therein he be not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work this man shall be blessed in his deed he said listen don't just hear it do it the idea of this this passage is it's like shaving you know sometimes I'll get in the morning look in the mirror and say well I need to shave but then

I'll get busy and I'll forget to shave and halfway through the day I rub my cheek and oh man I forgot to shave I saw but I didn't do anything about it the idea the first part of that passage is you look in the mirror and you see the problem but the second one is to get up close when you when you actually shave or to get up close and put on that makeup and what I'm challenging with this is that you don't just come here and hear the message but you take it and look at it very closely in your life and say is this what I need to do and don't just be hearers but be doers and so we need to understand what Paul said here in Philippians chapter 4 verse number n those things which you have both learned and received and heard and seen in me do and the God of Peace shall be with you we've gone through a whole list of things that we need to do so what are you doing with it
