Read: 2 Chronicles 16:7-10
Memory Verse: Psalm 11:7
For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.
I think our Training Instructor (TI) in Air Force Basic Training could be everywhere at once! He always seemed to know when we did anything wrong and was there watching you. If you messed up in some way, you just had to look up and there he was giving you that evil eye! Our TI never smiled and always looked mean and angry, but when you did something wrong he would give you that “look”. His countenance alone was enough to make you want to do it right.
I remember the day his countenance changed and he actually smiled at me. It was the day we graduated from basic. He came over and shook my hand and said he was proud of me. His countenance on that day made all of the hardships of basic training worth it!
That is the look that I want from God! I don’t want Him to be disappointed in me or angry at me because I was not “upright”. I am thankful that the Lord is not like my TI. He is longsuffering and forgiving, but He also wants us to do what is right. Like my TI when I finished the basic training course I want to hear the Lord say “Well done, thou good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21).
Meditation for the Day: If you could see the Lord’s face, what would His countenance be as He looks at you?
Assignment: Pick three areas of your life that you are going to do better. Wake up each day and determine to please the Lord by doing what is right.
For Fun: Is there someone in your life like my TI that expected you to do right; maybe a teacher or a coach or other mentor; and you worked hard to get that look of affirmation from?
